So in case I haven't mentioned it before (I have), I'm a HUUUUGE feria* fanatic. I think most of my jewelry is from some feria or another, and I'm constantly dragging anyone and everyone with the misfortune to be accompanying me through any and every feria I can find.
This trip to Argentina was no different! Boyf, who carries his grouch hat to all of them, grumbled and groused through feria after feria after feria - then stopped for a couple of minutes to grab himself a wallet, belt, and some gloves - maybe a decadent waffle with dulce de leche, raspberries, and cream on top - and got right back to groaning. Pff. Boys.

BELTS, PURSE, AND WALLETS feria de Mataderos (Buenos Aires) |
BRACELET feria de Recoleta (Buenos Aires) |
ALPARGATAS (shoes) artesania in El Bolsón |
GLOVES, HAIRPIECE, AND SILVER EARRING feria de Bolsón |
MACRAME EARRING made by moi!
I love Boyf's new shoes! I'm quite jealous, actually, they didn't have a pattern I liked in my size. These are called alpargatas (a.k.a. the original Toms - anyone else ever noticed that the Toms logo is an Argentinian flag?), and they're related to the espadrille. I think they might be originally from Spain but they've been wearing them in Argentina for generations - they're especially popular among gauchos, or Argentinian cowboys. Also, without peeking above (if you haven't already), try and guess which one of these items I made! (P.S. I made one of these items.)
*Spanish for "street fair"

Love all of these, so beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteOooooh I love the hairpiece!! And my boyfriend is also in love with alpargatas; they're so uncomfortable! Did you make the mittens?

I like alpargatas! I don't like the Tom's ones, though, because I feel like they're crazy overpriced (these were $20).
ReplyDeleteI made the earring! The macrame one. I have always loved waxed thread (mostly because I like burning the ends when I finish a piece) and I bought a bunch on this trip.
I'm trying to figure out how to make a similar hair piece! I just got dreamcatchers down but I can't figure out what to make the outside loop out of. Maybe I'll do a tutorial when I figure it out!
This stuff would be sooo perfect for Coachella!!!! :) So summery I love it :) Also thank you so much and it's called "Let me entertain you" by OPI, also I post photos of my nail polish every week or week and a half on instagram with the name/brand too, so if you want you can follow me there ;) @hapatime xx

Love that skinny belt! And yeah, I think the alpargatas are originally from Spain. I live in Madrid and you should see the line at the alpargateria when summer's beginning, literally 50 people lined up outside the door waiting to get in! Love it. And thanks for stopping by and commenting,

Haha, yeah, I've never seen an alpargateria in Argentina - but they've been pretty big there for a really long time, as far as I can tell.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your blog! It's one of my favorite recent finds :)
Thanks! Always love meeting new readers!
