Finally, some of the promised photos (more sambadrome photos (glitter!) to come later)! These are from my
instagram feed (follow me!) and they basically consist of all of Rio's little pleasures: beach, açaí*, amazing views, and Carnaval festivities.
1 - açaí* for breakfast before heading to the beach & Carnaval nails!
2 - my makeup for the first bloco** we attended, Cordão da Bola Preta, on Saturday! (It was crazy! Also I got hit on a whole lot - apparently this zebra thing is a huge turn-on!)
3 - Boyf and one of our Carnaval buddies (in from Baires!) on Copacabana beach!
4 - Boyf with his new Brazilian flag beach blanket! Ordem e progresso!
5 & 6 - views from Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain)
7 - beer on the beach - it never gets old. Especially when it's Copacabana beach.
8 - Boyf & I at a bloco** in Ipanema (Simpatia é Quase Amor)
9 - sword fighting with beach fare - in this case, shrimp on a stick.
10 - more açaí.
11, 12, & 13 - Sambódromo photos!!!! That last one is of my favorite float, a dialogue on the environment and the oil industry's effect on it that involved several huge but all equally gorgeous parts and those beautiful giant flying jellyfish balloons you see.
So as you can see, had a great time! (Have I succeeded in making you jealous?) How do you celebrate Carnaval/Carnival/Mardi Gras/Mardival where you are?
*(pronounced ah-sai-ee) the açaí berry is a small fruit native to parts of Latin America whose pulp is frozen and blended with guaraná (another fruit from down here) syrup into pretty much the most delicious ice cream/smoothie-like concoction ever. Disclaimer, however: not a health food.
**giant Carnaval street parties that are often themed - Bola Preta, meaning "black ball" was a white-with-black-polka-dots theme. I couldn't figure out how to do polka dots artfully so I did zebra.

Looks like you had so much fun! What is your instagram? Mine is @samanthanie. Let me know yours so I can follow you there too!
